Pambei-led UNLF holds 10th GA, reaffirms sovereignty call

The 10th general assembly of the Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) held in July has reinstated Khundongbam Pambei as the Front's chairman.
The general assembly held from July 28 to 30, also appointed 11 new members of the Central Committee after dissolving the 9th Central Committee, informed a UNLF statement issued by publicity and education secretary Charairongba Thokchom, adding that the proceedings began with a two-minute silence in honour of cadres who laid down their lives during the course of organisation's movement to restore the lost sovereignty of Manipur, which began from 1964.Apart from policies and programmes to further strengthen the organisation, the general assembly also discussed the ongoing ceasefire and peace talks it has been engaging with the Government of India to resolve the Manipur-India conflict.
Later, the general assembly, the highest decision-making body of the organisation, reaffirmed its unwavering objective of restoring Manipur's sovereignty and not to deviate from this agenda in the peace talks with the Government of India till reaching the goal, the statement said.
According to the UNLF, the 10th general assembly dissolved the 9th Central Committee as per the organisation's by-laws and appointed new Central Committee Members (CCM) .
The 10 th Central Committee unanimously re appointed Khundongbam Pambei as chairman with Thokchom Khambaton approved as vice chairman with the dual role of acting chairman.
The committee also appointed Salam Nongdol as general secretary, Naorem Loya as defence secretary, Sinam Pankhei as finance secretary, Takhellambam Thajalemba as deputy finance secretary, Khundrakpam Sanahal as secretary (external & regional affairs), Khuraijam Ibudhou as secretary (organisation), Charairongba Thokchom as department of publicity and education & department of human resource development secretary, and assistant secretary Thokchom Khanba will hold health and family welfare charge.
Additionally, CCM Lt Col Khuraijam Khoimu has been appointed as chief of army staff of the organisation's armed wing - Manipur People's Army, the UNLF statement informed.
The new CCMs also include Khundongbam Lanjingba.
