Locals overpower 3 accused in firing attack

Imphal, March 04 2022: Three people, suspected to be involved in the gun attack at the residence of one Md Hajiuddin near Wabagai Litan Marak in Wabagai AC, purportedly in connection with the second phase of elections on Saturday, were nabbed by the locals and handed over to Hiyanglam police.

The three people have been identified as Md Nurhuda (27) s/o Md Tonthem of Santhel Mayai Leikai, Md Abdul Hamid (25) s/o Md Helauddin of Santhel Mayai Leikai and Md Wahid Ali (33) s/o Md Habi of Sora Awang Leikai.

An unregistered Baleno car, two single barrel rifles, 1 round of 12 bore, 1 Khukhri knife and 1 sword were seized from the trio along with 1 single barrel rifle and 1 double barrel rifle from an A-Star car (MN 06 B 8337) driven by them.

According to a report of Hiyanglam PS, unidentified miscreants came in two cars to the residence of Md Hajiuddin and hurled verbal abuses.

Md Hajiuddin came out of his house and so did the locals, prompting the miscreants to flee the area while opening fire at the locals chasing them.

However, the locals managed to overpower the three miscreants and seize the two vehicles.

After being informed of the incident, a team of Hiyanglam PS and Kakching PS arrived and took control of the situation, while taking custody of the three people.

Hiyanglam PS has registered a case in this regard and further investigation is underway.
