NRFM cadres involved in killing of non-local arrested

Imphal, August 02 2022: A combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos and 31 Assam Rifle on Monday arrested four cadres of the proscribed National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) including two directly involved in killing of a non-local at Churachandpur town on June 17 .

The arrested cadres have been identified as Amom Santikumar (24), son of late Jugindro of Kumbi Haotak Tampha Khunou; Ningthoujam Khelemba (24) and his brother Thoiba (22); presently a resident of Churachandpur Khumujamba Leikai; son of late Miteshwpr Singh of Kumbi Terak-hong, and Wahengbam Marjit alias Dingku (24) son of Sunderjit of Kumbi Terakhong.

According to police report, acting on specific input regarding the presence of NRFM cadre around Saiton area to carry out prejudicial activities, a team of Bishnupur district commando team led by Additional SP (Ops) Roni Mayengbam along with a column of 31 AR conducted search operations in Saiton and Torbung Bangla areas at around 6.30 pm.

During the searches, the combined team signalled a Pulsar black in colour coming from Saiton side to halt but two people on the bike tried to escape and pulled out a side arm with the intention to attack the security team.

Immediately, the combined team pursued and overpowered both, later identified as Amom Shantikumar and Ningthoujam Khelemba at Torbung Bangla area along Tiddim road NH-2.The combined team seized a 9 mm pistol marked 'P228 Made in W Germany, one magazine and three live rounds, including one in the chamber.

During spot verification, they disclosed of being active cadres of NRFM and working under the command of one Pheirembam Boris Singh of Moirang College Gate and NRFM self-styled chairman Daballo.

Khelemba further revealed that he along with one Wahengbam Marjit alias Dingku Singh killed a non-Manipuri at Churachandpur town recently under the directive of Boris and Daballo.

The security team then apprehended Marjit from his residence and seized four rounds of 9 mm.

On further verification of Marjit disclosed that he and Khelemba shot one non-Manipuri at Churachandpur on the directive of Boris and Daballo on June 17 and he was also involved in firing at the residence of one H Momocha of Khumujamba, Churachandpur on July 12 .

He further revealed of planting an IED at Lamphel Pharmacy RIMS Road recently and also served demand letters to various institutions as directed by Daballo of NRFM.

According to the police report, Marjit disclosed Ningthoujam Thoiba Singh's involvement in serving demand letters in Imphal and Churachandpur district.

Accordingly, the security team rushed to the residence of Thoiba and arrested him along with recovering an FZ motorcycle (MN01Z-7023) and a mobile phone used in commission of pre-judicial activities.

All the four arrested cadres and the seized items have been handed over to Moirang police station for further action, it added.
