Thoubal road rage leaves 11 injured

Thoubal, March 02 2025:
At least 11 people including four women were injured in a road rage incident at Sangaiyumpham Puleipokpi Makha Leikai in Thoubal district around 9.30 am Sunday.
According to reports from the spot, one Atonba, said to be the younger brother of a former Thoubal ZP member, along with his sister was returning home from a doctor's place, when they got into an altercation with one Parvez, son of Sangaiyumpham Part-1 GP former pradhan Azad Khan, who was driving in front of Atonba.
The altercation, which began after heated exchange of words over not allowing to overtake the vehicles, escalated to the point of using firearms and other sharp weapons including spades, which left around 11 people injured on both sides.
Along with Azad Khan, four other people were taken to Thoubal district hospital for first aid treatment and later referred to different hospitals.
The four others injured have been identified as Sapira (18) d/o Md Jameruddin, Promila (40) w/o Md Jameruddin, Sarida (35) w/o Md Azman and Md Parvesh Alam (27) s/d Azad Khan, all from Sangaiyumpham Puleipokpi Makha Leikai.
Azad Khan was injured after getting hit in stone pelting, while the others suffered pellet injuries.
The injured on the other side have been identified as Md Achou (50) s/o Md Nazir Ahamed, Md Abas Khan (45) s/o (L) Hakim Ahamed, Md Sahidur (30) s/o Md Muji Rahman and Md Abdulnur (66), also from Puleipokpi Makha Leikai.
Apart from Abas, who was struck with a spade (yotpak) and taken to JNIMS hospital, the remaining three were hit by pellets.
Meanwhile, one man and a woman who were passing through were also injured.
However, they were discharged from the hospital as their injuries were not serious.
Thoubal police station has registered a case in this regard and investigation is underway.
