Police to conduct special drive during Yaoshang

In order to check instances of road mishaps during Yaoshang festival in Imphal West area, the Imphal West District Police would be carrying out a special drive to strictly implement certain safety norms and pull-up any erring individuals, stated a press release signed by SP of Imphal West district Nishit Kumar Ujwal today.
According to the press release, driving vehicles without driving licence and driving by minor would face imprisonment for 3 months or a fine of Rs 500 or both.
Owner of a vehicle who allows a minor or a person without driving licences, to drive his/her vehicle will face imprisonment for 3 months or a fine of Rs 1000 or both.
Driving vehicle without registration certificate of the vehicle would face a fine of Rs 2000, which may be extended upto Rs 5000 .
Driving vehicle without insurance certificate would face imprisonment for 3 months or a fine of Rs 1000 or both.
Triple riding on a two wheeler vehicle would attract a fine of Rs 300 and vehicles plying without displaying registration numbers would attract a fine of Rs 300 .
Driving by drunken person or by a person under the influence of liquor/drug would face imprisonment for 6 months or a fine of Rs 2000 or both.
Driving at excessive speed would also attract a fine of Rs 400 for first offence and Rs 1000 for second offence.
Overloading of Car/M-Gypsy/Maruti Van/Bus in violation of Section 133 (B) MV Act would be fined Rs 300 and driving a vehicle at a speed which is dangerous to the public would attract imprisonment for 6 months or a fine of Rs 1000 or both.
Moreover, driving vehicle while using mobile phone would face imprisonment for 6 months or a fine of Rs 400 for first offence and imprisonment for a term which may extended to 2 years or a fine of Rs 600, Rs 800 and Rs 1000 respectively for consecutive offences, the release added.
The SP has also appealed to the general public to cooperate with the Police in curbing road mishaps, save precious lives and ensure peaceful celebration of Yaoshang festival from March 8 to 12 .
The SP further urged all the parents/guardians not to send out their wards without valid driving license and other necessary documents.
