The observance was attended by IMA MSB former president Dr Ksh Sulochana Devi as chief guest and incumbent president Dr RK Lenin as functional president while IMA MSB former president Dr Jugindro Sorokhaibam.
IMA-CGP faculty di rector Dr Shyamkumar and IMA-MSB honorary state secretary Dr S Gautam were present as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rk Lenin informed out that there are only 4800 licenced medical doctors to treat the 33 lakh population of the state.
Further pointing out that apart from the number of doctors per capita highly incommensurate, majority of the doctors is concentrated in citv or towns, Dr Lenin also enumerated in major hospitals, the number of pa tients availing OPD service on a daily basis is around 220-300 compared to only two doctors per department.
As such, the doctors are unable to provide additional information to patients when enquired of the same.
To solve this problem, there is the need to improve the hospitals at district level, along with development of infrastructures, installing requisite equipment and decentralisation of doctors, he stressed.
Dr Lenin also maintained with eas ier access to the internet, there is an increasing hope that the health care services in the state would one day be on par with other states or countries.
He said shortage of manpower, infrastructure, super speciality and absence of cooperation often leads to loss of life, resulting in trust deficit and placing the blame on the doctors, staff and the hospital.
Even as the doctors are reeling over the loss of their patients, they have to suffer revilement on their prestige and pro fession, on top of assault.
Thus, such incidents need to be curbed, he said, while urging doctors to improve their communication skills while sharing information with the patients and their families by properly explaining the cause.
This would, in turn, help improve doctor patient relationship, he stated.
