Imphal, April 30 2025:
The intention of the 21 MLAs led by 13 BJP MLAs, who are currently in Delhi lobbying Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah to form a new government in the state, tantamount to disrespecting and dishonouring the people of Manipur, claimed Congress legal department chairman advocate Sanoujam Shyamcharan.
Addressing the media at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Legal Department chairman advocate Sanoujam Shyamcharan recalled that after former CM N Biren resigned on February 9, the President's Rule was imposed in the state on February 13.Though the masses initially believed that the President's Rule would help restore normalcy and peace in the state, unrest situation gripping the state forced various CSOs and section of the population to seek formation of a popular government.
Amid this, a team of 21 MLAs led by 13 BJP MLAs are currently lobbying in Delhi to form a government in the state, as per reports published in the media.
This is unfortunate as the request for formation of a government needs to be brought up to the Governor of the state concerned and not to the PM or the union home minister.
This is clearly stated in Article 136 & 164 of the Constitution.
However, the actions of the MLAs are discrediting and dishonouring the people of Manipur in Delhi.
They are violating the Constitution and tainting those doing politics sincerely.
The actions are further tainting the political journey of the state and Congress strongly condemns the same, he stated.
Shyamcharan maintained that BJP MLAs are continuing their party's drama.
It is no longer a political party which can be trusted to protect the country and state.
Most of its MLAs are barely educated except for a few who have served as IAS officers.
Their inclusion in this play is shocking, to say the least, he said, adding that the matter would be simple if it was BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi who lobbies at the party level for forming a popular government.
He continued that the MLAs are trying to deflect from the responsibilities entrusted to them by the people and the CSOs.
The MLAs of Keishamthong and Jiribam along with the NPP state president are opportunists.
Their actions generalise all politicians including the honest and sincere ones.
Thus, he urged all concerned to be sincere when working for the people, and suggested learning about the Constitution and other legalities.
