Mother, son killed in Tamenglong mudslide

Tamenglong, July 30 2024: In a tragic incident, a young woman and her infant son were killed when a heavy mudslide struck their house at Dimthanlong village, Tamenglong district headquarters on Monday midnight.

On hearing loud noises made by the mudslide, neighbours rushed out and they found the whole family of Ringsinlung Kahmei (32) trapped inside the fallen house and the debris.

Neighbours helped the mother and the father out but their two year old son was found dead.

Ringsinglung Kahmei and his wife Duanzaengliu (28) sustained critical injuries and they were rushed to Tamenglong district hospital but the young mother succumbed to the injuries on the way.

Moments before Duanzaengliu breathed her last, she enquired about the wellbeing of her baby.

Ringsinglung Kahmei who is a Constable serving in Manipur Police has been referred to JNIMS Imphal for further treatment.

The bodies of Duanzaengliu and her son were taken to Tabanglong village, the permanent residence of Ringsinlung for the last rites.

Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong Dr Angshim Dangsava, SP Tamenglong, a host of district level officers, CSO leaders and people from all walks of life came to extend their condolences and assistance to the bereaved family.

The DC Tamenglong, speaking to the gathering, assured all possible help to ensure payment of ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased and financial assistance to the injured.
