Nambul bank breaches at Samurou, other breached sections controlled

Even as the flood in Manipur has already affected thousands of families, the eastern bank of Nambul River breached at Samurou Makha Leikai .
Many residential places, fish farms and paddy fields at Samurou, Naorem Chaprou and Wangoi have been flooded following the breach of the river bank last night at around 9.15 .
Before the breach, volunteers of Arambai Tenggol and locals swung into action to prevent the river water from flowing towards the settlement areas and they were seen running hither and thither to bring the needed raw materials to mend the fissure.
They, however, failed to mend the vulnerable point and the river bank ultimately got breached at around 9.15 pm .
Many families in these three localities; Samurou, Naorem Chaprou and Wangoi have moved to safer places.

Though Wangoi AC MLA Kh Loken, Mayang Imphal AC MLA K Robindro and the Wangoi SDO have inspected the fissure, there are not adequate raw materials to repair the breached point, said many of the locals and appealed to the Government to look into the matter and mend the fissure.
On the other hand, even as the State stepped up its effort to control the flood in the State aftermath Cyclone Remal, breaches along major river banks have been plugged to stop water seeping into residential areas.
17 of 18 breaches on the banks of Imphal river have been plugged, Chief Minister N Biren wrote in a post on Facebook.
Personnel of the SDRF, NDRF, Manipur Police, Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Fire Service, district administration, local authorities and volunteers are carrying out rescue operations.
The Water Resources Department is in the forefront tackling the breaches and overflow of key rivers in the Imphal valley.
Major breaches at Heingang Chaothabi Leikai, Heingang Khabam Ibemcha High School, Kairang Awang Leikai and Kairang Kalam have been closed.
The volunteers have also controlled the overflow of water at various locations along the river at Heingang Khabam Lai Haraopham, Lairikyengbam Awang Leikai, Salanthong, Maria Montessori School, Karam Langthabal.
Overflow of the river water at Kangla Nongpok Torban, Kairang Mayai Leikai and Kekrupat near Kangla Northern Gate have been controlled.
Seepage and overflow of river water have also been controlled at Janmasthan Hicham Yaichampat, Irong Mayai Leikai, Konchak Mayang Imphal, Bengoon Lai Salam, Uchiwa Mayai Leikai and Uchiwa Heis-nam.
Blockages of flow by phumdi in the upstream of Sekmaijin Bridge RBB on Imphal River has been cleared.
Nambul River has also witnessed overflow of water at Moiraningthou Leirak, Ahanthem Leikai and Huidrom Leikai.
Breaching of river bank was also reported from Samurou Makha Leikai and work was on to plug it.
Overflow of the Tentha River at Tentha Khunou has been controlled.
Bishnupur district has also witnessed several breaches and overflowing of water from rivers.
Breach of river embankment has been reported from Thangtek (Khabi River) and Naorem Maipaksana, Kha-Jiri Mamang (Mayai Loukhong River) .
A breach of the bank of Nambol River at Nambol Naorem Makha Leikai has been plugged.
Water overflowing was also witnessed on the banks of Leimakhong River at several locations.
Two breaches along Thongjaorok River at Khoijuman have been temporarily plugged.
Temporary guide bunds have been installed at several locations to prevent and control overflowing of rivers.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, on Facebook, has lauded the locals of Thanga for offering boats and assisting rescue efforts.
He also appreciated personnel of SDRF, NDRF, Army, Police, and all volunteers who are engaged in rescue operations.
Notably, the State Government has set up many control rooms to address the problems being faced by flood victims.
