Imphal, September 29 2025: Unauthorized structures built on Government land at Khurkhul Moibung Khunou in Imphal East district were dismantled during an eviction drive carried out in the wee hours of September 29 .

The structures taken down today include a community hall, crematorium, public toilet and a well, among others.

Aggrieved residents of the area have raised an outcry claiming that the dismantled well was not built on Government land.

As the well was a source of water for the local populace, its demolition may invite public protest.

The drive was carried out under the supervision of SDO Lamsang with support and protection provided by Sekmai police and Central Security Forces.

Reportedly, Central Security Forces arrived early this morning and secured the site, after which the eviction was carried out.

On the other hand, meira paibis had guarded the locality overnight suspecting that an eviction drive was likely.

They found the Central security personnel in the area at 2.05 am.

After a confrontation between the two parties, the eviction drive began at 3.30 am.

It is worth noting that a team led by SDO Lamsang had earlier come to the eviction site on September 27 equipped with a JCB in an attempt to tear down the structures built on Government land.

Despite police protection, they were unable to proceed due to strong opposition from the local womenfolk.
