Imphal, June 29 2025:
Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam has stated that promoting and safeguarding the idea of Manipur is crucial to protect the State from breaking apart.
He made the statement at the 53rd installation ceremony of Rotary Club of Imphal at Rotary Multi Service Centre held at Mantripukhri, here, today.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Nishikant, a Rotarian, continued that Manipur has been plagued by violence and unrest for over two years, a situation that is well-known to everyone.
Saying that it is time for the people to work on peace, the MLA emphasised that Manipur needs a bridge not barriers.
He also expressed confidence that a popular Government would soon be established in Manipur and normalcy restored in the State.
2025 is the year of mangal (Mars) in astrology, he said and added that this year has already seen wars and natural disasters like destructive earthquakes across the world.
Two young women from Manipur were also killed in a tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, he recounted.
Stating that Manipur has been experiencing a tumultuous period since May 3, 2023, he emphasized that people should prioritize humanity which transcends caste, creed, and religion.
On the Rotary Club's motto "Service Above Self", Nishikant said that this philosophy is about contributing to Nation-building and elevating society to greater heights.
The MLA thanked the outgoing office bearers of Rotary Club Imphal for their service and extended his appreciation, while also congratulating the new office bearers.
Later, Nishikant released a souvenir called Manipadma, distributed awards and scholarships, and also donated wheelchairs and hearing aids during the function.
The new office bearers of the club were sworn in, and the secretary's report was read out.
