Imphal, July 28 2025:
In connection with the factional killing of 5 cadres of Chin-Kuki-Mizo Army (CKMA) recently, the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) is believed to have detained 6 persons.
A communique, released by the UKNA yesterday and translated by this paper, said the 6 are cadres of the CKMA and they were detained in connection with the killing of five of their colleagues on July 22 .
The UKNA in its statement said weapons were also recovered from the possessions of the 6 CKMA cadres.
While one of the six who was directly involved in the killing was handed over to the CKMA, the remaining five cadres have been handed over to CSO, said the UKNA's communique.
Notably, five new recruits of the CKMA were reportedly gunned down while they were asleep by fellow cadres in the early morning of July 22 in a remote jungle of K Daveijang, Noney district under Nungba police station.
The site of the incident reportedly is around 50 Km from Nungba police station.
The five killed were members of the United Tribal Volunteers (UTV) in Jiribam district, and they had joined the Chin-Kuki-Mizo Army (CKMA) recently, sources said.
Notably, sources had identified the deceased as Alex, Seiboi, Pongba, Rambo and Ringo.
Reportedly a group of 11 militants were staying together under the leadership of Seiboi.
From among the group, a band of six led by one Mangmingthang Haokip reportedly killed the five others including Seiboi.
After killing the five fellow cadres, the band led by Mangmingthang fled taking a number of weapons with them, sources had said.
Here, this paper couldn't identify and ascertain whether the six who were detained by the UKNA are the group of six led by Mangmingthang Haokip.
Their leader, Seiboi was well known among Kuki militant groups and he took active part in the clashes that took place in Mizoram, sources had said.
The reason for the killing has not been ascertained, and the UKNA also didn't reveal it in the statement, issued by its Department of Information.
