Imphal, November 27 2020: Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh has stressed the need to identify State Specific Indicators to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 .

He was speaking as Chief Guest at the inaugural function of Two Days Sensitization Workshop on 'State Indicator Framework to monitor the achievements of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)' held today at the Classic Hotel in Imphal.

Deputy Chief Minister said, we all know that amidst Covid-19 pandemic, economic activities have been badly affected not only in the State but also in all over the world.

He said, despite giving a major thrust in the wake of the pandemic, economic activities have been decreased and tax collection in the country has also considerably decreased so far.

Joykumar Singh further said that in this critical phase, state specific indicators have to be work out and need to be concentrated upon it.

Key areas like healthcare, education and providing basic amenities are the priority sectors that specific steps needs to be taken up and implemented at the earliest.

Certain economic activities have to be identified and steps to re-activate the same should be in place.

Although the impact of Covid-19 pandemic has suffering all of us we should never give up the roles and responsibilities to sustain ourselves and co-operate each other to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, he added.

Deputy Chief Minister also expressed confidence that such workshop will definitely help to identify State Specific Indicators in order to achieve development goals.

Deputy Director General, NSO(FOD), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation Shri MM Singh said, to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, 17 goals need to be targeted and various steps have to be taken up.

He said, State Specific Indicators and peculiar type of indicators have to be identified and proper planning should be made.

He further said Government is committed to achieve the SDGs by 2030 .

Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation will look upon the National Indicators Framework and National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) will implement all related activities, he added.

Professor E.Bijoykumar Singh of Manipur University also spoke on the importance of true data for proper planning and implementation of all development oriented programmes in the State.

Commissioner cum Secretary (E&S) Nidhi Kesarwani also spoke on the inaugural function.

Director (E&S) Ms Peijona Kamei, senior officers of different departments and delegates participated among others in the function.
