Imphal, June 27 2024: Governor Anusuiya Uikey has stated that the Centre is committed to resolve the impasse and soon some tangible steps will be seen.

The Governor made this statement during a meeting with Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar at the Raj Bhavan today.

The DC apprised the Governor about the prevailing situation in Churachand- pur.

The DC while informing the Governor about the condition of around 14,000 displaced people in relief camps, said that all essential items like food, water etc are being provided and reading materials have also been given to the students.

He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs sanctioned a total of 500 temporary shelter homes and construction works are going on in full swing.

It will be completed by August this year, Dharun Kumar said.

Skill training programs for 100 youths in hospitality sector is in progress and handloom and handicraft training programmes for local artisans will also be conducted, he said.

The Governor also directed the DC to take up all possible steps so as to ensure safety and security of the people.

She said, the Centre is committed to resolve the impasse and soon some tangible steps will be seen.

She asked the DC to initiate training programmes for the displaced people under various schemes and programmes.

The Governor also handed over a cheque of Rs one lakh to the DC and asked him to hand over the same to Sepoy Tongkhongam, a 75 year old non-pensioner soldier from Churachandpur district whose house was burnt down last year.

The amount was given by Support Our Heroes (SOH), a Delhi based NGO which is providing help since 2017 to the needy ex-soldiers and their families and Veer Naris/Widows.

Eight women leaders called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan this evening and requested the Governor for her active intervention to resolve the Manipur crisis at the earliest.

The team informed the Governor about the hardships faced by the displaced people in Jiribam district due to the recent spate of violence there.

Governor assured the team that all possible efforts are being made and hopefully a lasting solution to the crisis will be seen.

She said, as the Centre is committed to resolve the crisis, concerted steps will be taken up soon.

Representatives of 83 selected Assistant Professors of Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan and highlighted their grievances.

They informed the Governor that although their selection results were out in February this year, they are yet to join the university as no offer letters have been given till date.

They requested the Governor to help them on the matter.

The Governor assured the representatives that she would ask the concerned authorities to do the needful at the earliest in the best interest of the teaching community in the State.
