Imphal, September 26 2026: The ideals and vision of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat, who worked tirelessly to unite the people of Manipur should continue to guide the people of the State, said Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand.

The 75th death anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat was observed today at the Lamyanba Irawat Statue Complex at Pishumthong Oinam Leikai.

Organised by the Department of Art & Culture and the Irawat Memorial Charitable Trust, the programme was also attended by Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, MLAs Nishikant Singh Sapam and Karam Shyam.

Senior Government officials and several other dignitaries attended the floral tribute ceremony.

The highlights of the programme included offering floral tributes to the statue of the great leader and inaugurating several newly developed facilities at the complex.

Speaking at the event, Khemchand called upon the people to remember and honour the ideals and vision of Lamyanba Irawat and ensure that they continue to inspire future generations.

Recalling the contributions of Hijam Irawat, the Chief Minister said that the Lamyanba sacrificed his own interests and dedicated himself to the welfare of the people, leading several movements and struggles.

At a time when the idea of bringing about change in Manipur and building a more just society is yet to take shape, Irawat sacrificed his own interests and led several movements, he added.

Khemchand further said that Irawat also worked towards fostering a sense of unity among people belonging to different communities and residing in different parts of the State.

The legacy left behind by the great leader should be carried forward by the present generation, he added.

Khemchand Singh further said that the leader's vision of maintaining harmony among the different communities of Manipur and strengthening a sense of belonging to the land should be upheld.

He reiterated that the people should continue to learn from and carry forward the progressive outlook and ideals of the great leader.

Meanwhile, the Irawat Celebration Committee (ICC) observed State Mourning Day as part of the 75th death anniversary observance of Jananeta Hijam Irawat at Irawat Bhavan today.

During the observance, floral tributes were paid to the bust of Irawat, while leaders of the ICC and Left parties recalled his contributions and vision for Manipur.
