MCPCR takes Children Policy case to Uikey

Imphal, July 26 2024: The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has submitted a memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey appealing for enactment of the Manipur State Policy for Children 2020 and adoption of Regulatory Guidelines for Hostels of Educational Institutions for Children in the State.

The MCPCR team led by Chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Imphal today, said a press release issued by the Governor's Secretariat.

Notably, a Gazette notification issued on November 12, 2020 had sought public opinion on the Manipur State Policy for Children 2020.However, its enactment is still pending as no Cabinet decision has been taken, said a statement issued by MCPCR.

The delegation stated that the policy consists of various structures, principles, and guidelines which will help address the existing plight of over 20,000 internally displaced children affected by ethnic violence.

They added that adoption of the Regulatory Guidelines for Hostels of Educational Institutions for Children is needed to prevent children from becoming addicted to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, which are easily available in many unregulated hostels and boarding facilities.

In response, the Governor appreciated all the works undertaken by MCPCR in helping the children in the State and assured them that she would also extend all possible assistance.

Additionally, she directed them to submit a report on the condition of children living in different relief camps, both in the valley and in the hill districts.

She further stressed that the welfare and protection of children are paramount.

MCPCR members Lamyanbi, Anita Chabungbam, Dr Kausar Banu, Phungching Shaiza and brand ambassador of MCPCR Jinatree Thounaojam were part of the team.
