CM assures special priority to Agniveers
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, July 26 2022: The state observed Kargil Vijay Diwas, which commemorates India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War in 1999, at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall on Tuesday with chief minister N Biren Singh attending the function as chief guest, rural development and panchayati raj minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh as president and health & family welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh as guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, CM N Biren recalled the valour and courage shown by the Indian soldiers during the Kargil War driving away the Pakistani forces by recapturing mountain heights that had been seized by Pakistani intruders.

Honouring the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers to save the integrity and sovereignty of the country, he mentioned that Indian soldiers had overcome many challenges, camping at extremely cold regions and the country lost 527 soldiers including many Manipuris during the war which went on for 74 days.

The CM maintained that India had witnessed considerable progress in every field, after 2014, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He continued that as the country progresses in its path of development, many challenges including enmity from neighbouring countries would create impediments to the growth.

As such, people of the country should maintain unity and sense of brotherhood and should be ready to face any eventualities on our way towards development.

Considering its importance, the central government has come up with the Agnipath Scheme, he maintained.

N Biren further informed that the Agniveer Recruitment for all the districts of Manipur, which was earlier scheduled to be held at Dimapur, Nagaland, has been rescheduled to be held at Leimakhong from November 23 to December 5 .

Youth of the state won't face the problems of going outside the state as they would have the opportunity to appear for the Agniveer Recruitment Rally in the state itself, he said and also informed the state government would provide special priority to Agniveers during the recruitment in state's active services.

Expressing happiness on Manipur bagging the top position in the North East and Hill State category in the third edition of NITI Aayog's India Innovation Index, 2021, he lauded his ministers, MLAs and all officials of the state government for their hard work and dedication towards good governance and welfare of the people.

Biren also confided that the government has prepared plans for repair and construction of roads of Imphal along with declaring that the government will never compromise on development of roadways infrastructure in the state.

Referring to the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign to celebrate the 75th year of India's independence, the chief minister appealed to the public to hoist the National Flag with pride and with the thought of one nation.

As a part of the observance, artistes of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal presented a patriotic song.

The commemorative event was also attended by ministers, MLAs, chief secretary, director general of police, high ranking civil and police officials among others.

Meanwhile, Bishnupur district administration observed Kargil Vijay Diwas at the conference hall of DC Office on Tuesday during which a two minute-long silence was observed as a mark of respect for the sacrifices made by the Indian soldiers in the Kargil War.

Bishnupur deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram, ADC H Bobby Sharma, AC to DC Ejaj Hassan, district level officials and staff of the district administration attended the observance.

On the other hand, All Manipur Gorkha Ex-Servicemen (Def/CAPF) Association (AMGESA) led by its president GP Ramudhamu observed Kargil Vijay Diwas at its Vijaynagar, Kanglatongbi office on Tuesday.

In a release, AMGESA stated that other Gorkha CSOs such as MGWU, BHAGOP and AMGSU, senior Gorkha veterans, advisors, members, widows, 'Veer Naaris' and children attended the programme and paid tributes to the Kargil War Heroes, who had made supreme sacrifices for the nation.

As part of the observance, candles were lighted and two-minute silence was observed, it added.
