DESAM cries foul

Imphal, March 26 2026: The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has raised concerns over alleged anomalies at Manipur College, which resulted in 18 students being unable to sit for their examination on March 23 .

Speaking to the media at Keishampat today, DESAM president Oinam Romesh claimed that the affected students could not appear for the exam because they were taught the syllabus for a different semester in the Manipuri subject.

He urged the Government to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against the responsible teachers.

Romesh stated that the incident occurred on the third day (March 23) of college examinations conducted under Manipur University for the seventh semester Manipuri paper.

Saying that DESAM received reports of many students leaving the examination hall without answering anything an hour before the exam ended on March 23, Romesh claimed that they learned these seventh semester students had not written anything because they were taught the syllabus for the eighth semester instead.

He further claimed that these students had prepared for the exam by studying Applied Manipuri Linguistics, but instead, the questions were based on Research Methodology which is for another semester.

Romesh claimed that the teachers at Manipur College taught the seventh semester students content meant for the eighth semester, which he described as a serious issue.

Questioning why the Manipuri Department of Manipur College had failed to update the syllabi of Manipur University, he added that such issues reflect the poor state of the education system in Manipur.

He urged the Government to take strict actions against the teachers involved in the lapses.
