Imphal, June 25 2025:
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has issued a public advisory against dumping of waste materials, including plastic bottles and bags, in the drain on its northern side, located beside the Lamphel Traffic Island and opposite to the Officers' Club, Lamphel.
It has come to the notice of the authorities that, despite repeated clean-up effortsmost recently conducted by RIMS staff - the area continues to be misused as an informal dumping site, said the hospital in a statement.
With the onset of the rainy season, plastic waste is being washed into the drainage system, resulting in significant blockage due to the accumulation of non-biodegradable materials.
The clogging of the drain poses a serious risk of waterlogging, environmental contamination, and vector-borne diseases, affecting both the community and the hospital campus, it said.
In line with its commitment to environmental sustainability, RIMS has enforced a ban on the use of plastic bottles within its campus over the year with the aim of creating a plastic-free zone that fosters health, hygiene, and ecological responsibility, it said, urging all citizens to cooperate in maintaining the cleanliness by disposing of waste responsibly and supporting civic hygiene initiatives.
Strict monitoring and necessary action will be undertaken to prevent unhygienic and irresponsible disposal of waste, said RIMS .
