CCpur, May 23 2017: The mortal remains of the eight youths who were killed during the height of the anti-Bill unrest in mid-2015 will be finally laid to rest, 632 days after the movement that claimed their lives, following the inking of a pact between the JACAATB and the State Government.

With preparation for performing the last rites of the 'Martyrs' all set by evening, the State Government too kept its time bound promise later to the families of those who lost their loved ones and to those who have been left handicapped.

The Deputy Commissioner Churachandpur R Sudhan, AC to DC S Thienlaljoy handed over the compensation and appointment orders at YPA GHQs Hall in the presence of JAC AATB chief convenor H Mangchinkhup, other key functionaries and tribe leaders.

A cheque of Rs 10 lakh each and an appointment order with the State Revenue Department were given to the families of the deceased while another eight permanently disabled individuals received a cheque of Rs 2 lakh and a job each.

Another 48 people who were injured also received Rs 50,000 each.

Meanwhile the JAC AATB is all set to lay the bodies to rest and planned a befitting ritual at Lamka public ground in their honour.

The ritual will begin at 11 am and will eventually conclude with the formation of a human chain after which the bodies will be taken to the proposed Martyrs' Memorial park at Mata where they will be laid alongside one another.

Meanwhile a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister where the Hmar Inpui wholeheartedly welcomed the initiative taken by the State Government to solve issues arising out of the three Bills passed by the previous Government by signing an MoU between the State Government and the JAC-AATB on May 10 conveyed a joint press release issued by president and secretary of Hmar Inpui.

The Hmar Inpui extended its support to the proactive steps taken up by the State Government to bring peace and harmony in the State and also welcomed the creation of seven new districts including Pherzawl district.

The Hmar Inpui asserted that if a new district, as per the MoU, is to be created out of the present Churachandpur district, the Hmars settled in and around Khuga Valley of the present district desire to remain in the present district.
