Students protest 'demand bullets'

Internally displaced people, students and staff of Kamakhya Pemton College staged a sit-in protest today denouncing a gun attack at the residence of the college's Principal recently.
The gun attack at the residence of Dr Wahengbam Nimai occurred in the afternoon of August 20 .
An unidentified person fired five rounds of bullets at his residence.
The incident is suspected to be linked to monetary demands served to the college by "organisations" .
The protesters including internally displaced people staying at the relief camp opened at the college premises denounced the attack and urged all concerned to make colleges and schools free from disturbances.

The teachers and other staff said Kamakhya Pemton College is an aided college and as such, it has been facing difficulties in running it and paying salaries of the staff.
Amid such difficulties, monetary demands being made to the college has burdened the staff, they said, urging "organisations" concerned to stop making monetary demands and intimidating and attacking college staff.
The college and the internally displaced people vehemently condemn the recent gun attack and bomb placed in the residence of the Principal.
Such incidents disturb the academic atmosphere and pose a threat to the lives of the staff, they said.
Amid the current conflict, the college has been giving shelter to the displaced people and the staff have been assisting them in all possible ways, they added, appealing to all concerned not to serve monetary demands and disturb the academic atmosphere in the college in the interest of the students.
