Stranded trucks, tankers leave Jiribam for Imphal

Imphal, June 22 2024:
After being stranded for days, 229 trucks escorted by two convoys of CRPF (not simultaneously) departed for Imphal from Jiribam this morning.
Of the 229 trucks, 217 are oil tankers while the remaining 17 are loaded with other essential commodities.
These trucks are expected to reach Imphal tomorrow (Sunday) .
The first convoy of 120 trucks which included LPG bullet tanker trucks and oil tankers (petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel) left Jiribam at around 6.30 am with an escort party of CRPF.
The second convoy of 109 trucks which included 24 petrol tankers, 70 diesel tankers, three trucks carrying both petrol and diesel in different compartments, two FCI trucks and other loaded trucks carrying cement (3), Mimi noodles (3), packaged salt (1) etc started heading towards Imphal at around 7 am.

It was reported that the first convoy of 120 trucks reached Nungba this eve-ning and they will spend the night there.
They will start moving towards Imphal again in the morning tomorrow.
The second convoy of 109 trucks, on the other hand, reached Barak and they would also spend the night there.
They could not reach Nungba due to the condition of National-Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) but they too are, nonetheless, expected to reach Imphal tomorrow.
Some personnel of Manipur police are also in both the convoys to strengthen the escort parties.
It is reported that no loaded tanker trucks were left behind in Jiribam after the two convoys of transporters started heading towards Imphal.
