Imphal, October 21 2025:
Volunteers of six student organisations (AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS) carried on their drive against price hikes at Khwairamband Keithel on the eve of the Ningol Chakkouba festival.
The student volunteers today visited wholesalers, retailers and the shops opened at Nagamapal and checked the prices of goods sold there.
They made some shops which were selling goods at prices determined by themselves, without displaying the price list fixed by CAF&PD Department to close.
Talking to media persons about their drive, Hijam Roshan, coordinator of the six student bodies, said that some shops were selling goods at prices determined as per their own sweet will without displaying the price list fixed by the CAF&PD Department right in the heart of Khwairamband Keithel.
It is a matter of grave concern that the authorities concerned have not been paying any attention to these unethical and wrong practices, Roshan said.
The Government must check shops selling goods without displaying price lists not only at the time of Ningol Chakkouba but also during other festivals like Christmas, Gaan-Ngai etc, he said.
He appealed to all the people to use local products as far as possible during festivals.
Using more imported goods will only drain the State's economy, he added.
