FOCS, 14 others condemn

Imphal, April 21 2026 : The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) and 14 other civil organisations namely; IPOM, UMO, MWF, PALEM, MPF, WMO, MKNM, LEVYM, YEMKL, Anouba Semnitlon, MMWO, MPCM, KUCMAZ and Ningol Club have strongly condemned the barbaric and inhuman murder of two Tangkhul Naga civilians - Chinaoshang Shokwungnao of Tashar village and Yaruingam Vashum of Kharasom village on April 18, 2026 between Litan and TM Kasom.

Such brutal acts of violence against innocent civilians are unacceptable and pose a serious threat to peace, communal harmony and the rule of law in the region, said a joint press release issued by the 15 civil organisations.

The civil organisations have also expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved families.

The Government must ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators and their accomplices involved in the heinous crime, said the joint press release.

It said that adequate security arrangements must be put in place to safeguard NH-202 and other vulnerable routes to ensure the safety of commuters and prevent further such incidents.

The Govt must take concrete steps to ensure the protection of civilians and restore a sense of security in the affected areas, it said.

While expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the civil organisations have reaffirmed their commitment to peace, justice and communal harmony.

They also urged the authorities to take swift and decisive action to prevent recurrence of such tragic incidents.
