Imphal, March 21 2025:
In a startling revelation, Manipur has uncovered a staggering 690 ration card holders claiming to be centenarians, raising eyebrows and sparking suspicions about the authenticity of these extraordinary claims.
In response, the Director of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) has ordered District Supply Officers (DSOs) to verify the authenticity of these claims.
An official source said that the record of the overwhelming centenarian ration card holders (690) were discovered during a meeting presided by new CAF&PD Director K Bono on March 19 .
DSOs also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the CAF&PD Director directed the DSOs to verify the authenticity of the centenarian ration card holders and identify the fake ones within a week.
It is reported that 22 suspected fake centenarian ration card holders have been deleted from the beneficiary list in Bishnupur as part of the crackdown on fraudulent claims.
The department has also identified more individuals who don't qualify for subsidized rice provided by the Government included in the beneficiary list as per the source.
It's been reported that the department can easily identify individuals who don't meet the eligibility criteria for subsidized rice using a specialized software.
Specifically, those who own a four-wheeler vehicle and have paddy land of 2.5 acres or more are not entitled to receive subsidized rice as per the source.
Saying that the State has a total of 21,06,713 ration card holders, with Aadhaar authentication already completed for 17,70,791 beneficiaries, the source added that Director of CAF&PD has also instructed the DSOs to remove 38,516 deputy beneficiaries from the beneficiary list within 15 days.
