Imphal, January 20:
Without pulling any punches, the Joint Action Co-ordinating Committee of Bishnupur District Zilla Parishad, Pradhan, Up-Pradhan and Gram Panchayat has today stated that its demand that the DC of the district Aleng Shimray should be transferred was raised because the people have been robbed of their rights.
In a statement, the JAC said that it has come to their notice through a news item published in the local papers on January 20, that some hired hands have been at work to lobby for the DC.
The decision to call an indefinite general strike to demand the transfer of the DC from 6 am of January 21 was not taken by any private individual but was called in the interest of the people, asserted the JAC.
The hired hands of the DC have also been trying to drive a wedge amongst the people and the elected local representatives on the issue, said the statement and added that such tactics will not succeed.
Meanwhile at least 11 social organisations, including elected representatives to the local bodies have announced their decision to back the demand raised by the JAC to transfer the DC, Aleng Shimray.
In a statement, the organisations urged the people to extend their support to the campaign taken up to get the DC transferred from the district.
Levelling a number of charges against the officer, the organisations said that he is not only inefficient but also corrupt and works in the interest of only a few favoured people.
