Imphal, April 19: With a number of student bodies calling for a boycott of examinations conducted by MU, to demand an amicable solution to the ongoing Meetei Mayek agitation, the Higher and Technical Education Department and Manipur University have worked out a roster system for night duty of teachers and peons for the smooth conduct of the TDC II and III year scheduled to start from tomorrow.

Talking to The Sangai Express a well placed source said that the Higher Education Department and MU authority are not leaving anything to chance and have taken up a number of measures to ensure that the examinations pass off well.

Roster systems have been worked out for teachers and peons to spend the night at the colleges.

Even during day time rosters have been worked out to man the colleges.

This has been conveyed to all the Principals by the Higher and Technical Education Department.

The arrangement is temporary, said the source but added that this will continue until situation normalises to a certain extent.

The source said that to ensure the smooth conduct of the TDC II and III year examination a meeting of all Government College Principals was held on April 11.During the meeting, the Higher and Technical Education Commissioner instructed the College Principals to inform the police and seek their help if they sense any trouble breaking out during the examination, said the source.

The State Home Department had earlier issued instructions to all Government Departments to be on their toes and ensure that no Government properties and private properties are destroyed or damaged during the current agitation.

As the order had indicated that the examinations scheduled to start from tomorrow may be disrupted, authorities of Higher and Technical Education and MU had taken up necessary measures to nullify any attempts to disrupt the examination, said the source further.

The Government has also been asked to provide security at all the examination centres, added the source.

Security has also been beefed up at all the colleges from today to thwart any attempt to attack the institutions, said the source.
