Imphal, August 18 2025: A Fast Track Special Court has sentenced a 45-year-old under POCSO to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for cheating and sexually assaulting a minor girl in April 2016 .

Oinam Robinchandra (45) of Tokpa Ching Mayai Leikai was convicted by the same Court of Judge W Tonen Meitei on August 11 .

He was convicted for the offence of cheating by personation, punishable under Section 419 IPC and sexual assault of a minor under 16 years of age, punishable under Section 4 of the POCSO Act.

In April 2016, Oinam Robinchandra, then 34/35 years of age, cheated the victim - a minor girl under 16 - by impersonating, and sexually assaulted her at Mahadeva Hill, Kakching district.

The convict, Oinam Robinchandra, was produced before the Court from Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa today.

During the sentence hearing today, the Fast Track Court Judge, W Tonen Meitei observed that Oinam Robinchandra is facing another trial for similar offences of cheating and sexual assault in Bishnupur district.

The Judge observed that while he was out on bail in April 2019 during the trial of the current case, Robinchandra allegedly cheated another minor victim and sexually assaulted her as well.

Robinchandra allegedly impersonated as one Debajit and sexually assaulted his second victim inside a restaurant located at Utlou on April 11, 2019 .

In this case, he was arrested by the Cyber Crime Police Imphal West and the Session Judge Bishnupur is hearing the case, observed the Judge.

During the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor M Bishambhor Singh prayed the Court to award the convict a punishment that would serve as a deterrent to criminals.

The victim girl was only 14 years and 2 months old at the time when the convict, an adult, committed the penetrative sexual offence, said the prosecutor, asking the Court to sentence the convict to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act, 2012.While the defense counsel prayed the Court for leniency, Judge W Tonen Meitei took note of the pending case of similar offences against the convict with the Session Judge, Bishnupur.

The Judge ordered the convict, Oinam Robinchandra to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 20 years for sexual assault under Section 4(2) of POCSO Act and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 .

For the offence of cheating by personation, the convict shall undergo 2 years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 1,000 .

The sentences shall run concurrently, ordered the Judge.

The Judge further directed the State Government to provide Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the victim within a period of one month.
