Deport all illegal immigrants: TNL to CM

Imphal, April 17 2026: Listing a series of demands, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) submitted two memoranda to Chief Minister Y Khemchand today.

In the first memorandum, signed by its president Sword Vashum and marked as urgent, the TNL urged the Chief Minister to identify and deport all illegal Kuki immigrants to their countries of origin, remove all the existing camps of Kuki militant groups under SoO pact from Naga inhabited areas and ensure that no extortion or illegal taxation take place along Imphal-Ukhrul Highway at the hands of the Kuki militants.

TNL also demanded relocation of all internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Naga-inhabited areas.

Furthermore, the Tangkhul Naga group urged the Government to ensure that no territory within Manipur is used by Kuki immigrants as a safe haven for operating poppy-drug cartels.

TNL also called for the immediate eviction of all unrecognized and illegal settlements, villages, and hamlets, stating that no new permits, Touzi, or patta shall be issued for any new Kuki settlements.

It also demanded 24/7 ROP along the Imphal-Ukhrul Highway (NH 202).Additionally, the TNL urged the Government to immediately halt the militarisation of Naga-inhabited areas and ensure that deployed Central forces maintain neutrality.

It also demanded the withdrawal of the Government's recommendation to hand over the Thawai Kuki murder case to the NIA.

Meanwhile, the TNL stated that essential infrastructure, including an oxygen plant, a licensed blood bank, the filling of specialist and vacant staff positions, and a dedicated emergency drug package, are urgently needed at the Ukhrul District Hospital.

It also stated that the main highway cutting through the heart of Ukhrul district headquarters, from Dungrei to Kharasom Junction and the main access road from the western side of the district, spanning 4-5 km down to the NH-102A bypass junction, requires immediate repair, improvement, and maintenance on a war footing.

TNL, in the second memorandum also signed by its president, urged the Government to establish All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Ukhrul and upgrade Pettigrew College to a Central University.

The group also demanded removal of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, upgradation of roads in Ukhrul district headquarters, implementation of the Solid Waste Management Action Plan prepared by the Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) and upgradation of Ukhrul District Hospital to a 200 bedded facility among others.

On delimitation, TNL said that Naga inhabited areas with 33 per cent of population of and 65 per cent of land must have 22 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) as against the valley getting 25 ACs with 44 per cent of population and 10 per cent of land while the remaining 13 would go to where they are due.

TNL also demanded implementation of a political settlement under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
