Individuals who newly joined "Team Nishikant" were also welcomed and feted at the event.
Speaking at the event, MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam said the old age pension scheme and the Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme are initiatives of the Government that aim to provide financial assistance to elderly persons aged 60 and above and vulnerable women aged 40 years and above.
While speaking about the schemes, the MLA underscored how the people and the society as a whole must care for elders.
Folk dances and songs are not the only components of culture.
Discipline and respect for elders are also part of "our culture", Nishikant said.
"We are who we are today because of them [parents and grandparents].
They fed us and took care of us and our needs.
We should never forget this and disregard them," Nishikant said.
Taking care of "our elders" and respecting them, and helping them in their needs are parts of our Meitei culture and is "dharma," he said.
On developmental projects being taken up in Keishamthong Assembly Constituency, Nishikant said construction of rigid pavement and blacktopping of roads in the Constituney are expected to be completed about 85-90 percent by the end of the monsoon season.
While the conflict and absence of a popular Government had affected developmental works, the formation of the new Government has allowed works to be carried out.
Construction and repairing of roads in the Constituency will be completed swiftly, he added.
Acknowledging Team Nishikant's work and progress, the MLA said he "welcomes suggestions given to constitute an advisory board or committee." BJP Keishamthong Mandal president N Biren, Nata Sankirtana Guru Leimapokpam Lakhpati, and several local leaders attended the programme.
