Imphal, July 16: Following the 10 days relaxation of the restrictions placed on the people of Heirok by the proscribed UNLF and KYKL, a number of students of the village who had left their institutions have started joining their schools and institutions.

With at least 300 youths of Heirok joining the SPO training, the two outfits had on July 7 announced a series of restrictions on the people of Heirok which would be enforced with immediate effect.

Fearing the worst, a number of parents and guardians had taken back their children and wards from their institutions.

Speaking to The Sangai Express today, a resident of Heirok said that the authorities of a number of institutes had also asked the parents to take back their children and wait for a conducive period.

A parent, Abujam Joy, whose daughter A Anju Devi is studying nursing at the Nightingale Nursing Institute, Porompat expressed apprehension that the future of the youngsters of Heirok may be thrown into jeopardy if the current stand off is not resolved.

Opining that the public leaders of Heirok should start putting their minds on the issue to work out a solution, Joy however said that it is not a good idea to interfere in the education of the youngsters.

Heirok has many promising youngsters who can bring laurels to the State, he said and added that many students from the place have done exceptionally well in the Class X and Class XII examinations.

It would be to the advantage of all to provide the opportunity to these promising youngsters to pursue their dreams and aspirations, Joy observed.

However with the two outfits relaxing their restrictions some students have started returning to their institutions and Class I student of Standard Robarth School, Wairokpam Mahesh rejoined his school yesterday.

Similarly, Phuritshabam Shantibala has also returned to Nightingale Nursing Institute.

Y Ibosana, father of Mahesh while interacting with The Sangai Express wondered when peace will become a reality in Heirok.

On the other hand, Chanambam Adison, a class IV student of Standard Robarth English School, Canchipur is yet to return to his school.

Grandmother of Adison, Chanambam ongbi Manisang Devi said that the present situation in Heirok is due to the decision taken by the people.

The final solution will also rest on the decision of the public.

Assistant CO of the IRB posted at Heirok following the March 24 incident, Md Tombi while speaking to The Sangai Express said that the Government is leaving nothing to chance to provide foolproof security to the public of Heirok.

The IRB personnel daily patrol the areas of Heirok from 6 am to 12 noon and from 1 pm to 6 pm in two shifts, said the officer and added that operations are being conducted at places where UGs are suspected to be taking shelter.

When needed the help of the BSF is also taken, said the IRB officer.

In the adjoining nights of April 14 and 15, a search operation was launched at Heirok part III on receiving inputs that some militants had made their way into the said area, said Assistant CO.

In conjunction with the demand of the JAC the Government has given 70 out of the total 100 solar lamps.

The process of installing the solar lamps on the streets of Heirok has started today.
