Imphal, April 16 2026: The Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) has refuted the news report of its involvement in collecting illegal tax from trucks on Imphal-Dimapur highway.

While refuting the report, the KRA claimed that it has strictly adhered to the ground rules of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement "in both letter and spirit" and has no role whatsoever in extortion or unlawful activities.

Raising serious questions over the purported evidence cited in the report, the KRA pointed to the publication of a "so-called receipt" as proof of fabrication.

"The KRA does not issue any such receipts under any circumstances", it said.

Yet, no difference could he seen between the logo printed on the outfit's official letterhead, on which the statement refuting the news story was carried, and the one printed on the receipt for collecting illegal tax from trucks.

The outfit further underlined that the location mentioned in the report does not fall within its operational jurisdiction, terming this discrepancy as "yet another clear indicator of falsehood and misrepresentation" .

Central forces were earlier present around the spot where KRA collected illegal tax from trucks but the Central forces were withdrawn from the area recently.

Taking advantage of the absence of security forces, the KRA cadres came down from the nearby hills and forcibly collected illegal tax from the trucks, said sources.

However, the KRA maintained that it "does not engage in any form of illegal taxation or extortion" and remains committed to peace and discipline under the SoO framework.
