Senapati CSOs, UNC meet officials over hostage situation

Senapati, May 15 2026:
A meeting on the issue of abduction of civilians was held between the United Naga Council (UNC), Senapati district CSOs, and officials of the State Home Department today.
The State Home Department was represented by Commissioner N Ashok Kumar and Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, IPS (ADGP).
The meeting which lasted over an hour was held at the Senapati DC Conference Hall.
During the meeting, the Home Department assured that the status of six abducted Naga men, believed to be still in captivity of Kuki militants, would be ascertained by the following day.
The assurance came after strong demands from civil society organisations which sought clarity on the condition and whereabouts of the abductees.
While women hostages have been reportedly released, Naga men taken hostages have not been released.
Significantly, the 24 hour ultimatum set by the UNC yesterday for safe release of all hostages has been extended until 2 pm of May 16 .
The IGAR (East), meanwhile, paid a courtesy visit to the UNC office this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Naga People's Organisation (NPO) cautioned Nagas to avoid travelling along the Senapati-Imphal road.
The NPO said the caution has been issued as precautionary measures for the safety and security of the public.
"The general public is strongly advised to remain alert and avoid any kind of travel along the said route, and take utmost precautions in the interest of personal safety," NPO added.
