2023 batch: Bright students of Govt schools awarded

The Department of Education (S) has given incentive (monetary) worth Rs 40.75 lakh to 70 meritorious Government school students who excelled in the State's Class X and XII examinations 2023.Two students of Tamphasana Girls' Higher Secondary School�Pushpa Naorem and Rajbrinda Naorem who topped the Arts and Commerce streams respectively were awarded an incentive of Rs 5 lakh each.
The awards were distributed to the students at the premises of the SCERT at Lamphelpat today.
The incentive award, instituted in 2018, aims at encouraging competition among Government school students.
The award is given to students who top the HSLCE and HSE at State level and district level with a minimum score of 70 percent.
While the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM), the Higher Secondary Examination (HSE) is conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur.
During the award ceremony today, Tulshipriya Athokpam of TG Higher Secondary School who bagged the 3rd position in Arts stream was awarded Rs 3 lakh.
HSE 2023 Arts stream 7th position holder-Naorem Nitish Singh of CC Higher Secondary School, Commerce stream 5th position holder - Elangbam Sonia of TG Higher Secondary School and Science stream 16th position holder L Lanchenbi and 18th position holder (Science) Laimayum Riya of TG Higher Secondary School were awarded Rs 1 lakh each.
Students who topped at district level were also given the incentives today.
1st and 2nd position holders in district level were awarded Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 each respectively.
When the benchmark for the award is a minimum of 70 percent, Pherzawl and Jiribam district didn't win any award.
In 2018, a total of 37 students bagged the awards and it improved to 55 in 2019 .
In 2020, a total of 58 students bagged the awards and in 2022 - a total of 63 students won the awards.
Examinations were not held for 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
For the 2023 Class X and XII examinations, a total of 70 students were given the incentives today.
TG Higher Secondary School bagged 12 awards, the most of all the schools.
CC Higher Secondary School bagged 4 awards.
Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, Kakching Higher Secondary School, Khangsillung Higher Secondary School and Langmeidong Higher Secondary School bagged 3 awards each.
Education (S) Valley Additional Director Bisheshwar Khumukcham and Additional Director Hills Dangmei Manglem and SCERT Director Chinglenkhomba attended the award distribution ceremony.
It may be mentioned that the Council of Higher Secondary Education has recently announced the results of the 2024 HSE with a record pass percentage of 97.63.The 2024 HSLCE results are yet to be declared.
