Imphal, January 15 2026: Campaign for Just & Fair Delimitation convenor Jitendra Ningomba has urged all MLAs to pass a unanimous resolution prioritising the identification of illegal immigrants settling in Manipur before the commencement of the upcoming census exercise.

Addressing a programme at Wangoo Sabal in Bishnupur today, he cautioned that illegal immigrants could potentially influence the formulation of State policies in the future if they are mistakenly included in the population count.

Saying that the census is crucial for launching new development and welfare programmes, he emphasised that the Government must understand the concerns of those opposing the census.

Given the current situation in Manipur, conducting the census could lead the Meitei community into an uncertain future, he said and stated that the situation in Manipur is not conducive for an accurate or fair population count.

In contrast, Jitendra stated that illegal Kuki immigrants from Myanmar will receive Indian citizenship and various benefits, all at the expense of indigenous communities.

He stressed that illegal immigrants must be identified first as a priority.

Manipur, being a border State, faces significant challenges due to the absence of border fences, Jitendra added.

He reasoned that such an issue should not be taken lightly, as granting Indian citizenship to illegal immigrants could jeopardize the future of indigenous communities.

Jitendra claimed that the 2001 census revealed an abnormal population growth in nine sub-divisions of Manipur due to incorrect entries.
