Gogoi's win elates Gaikhangam

Imphal, May 14 2011: Justifying the return to power of the Congress party in Assam as a stamp of approval by the people for Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's all round development endeavour, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaikhangam has exuded confidence that the Congress-led SPF Government will too be voted to power for the third consecutive term.

"Assam's poll result shows that anti-incumbency factor is not the people's rationality.

People deeply justified the good governance and hence it is their victory.

I deeply congratulate Tagun Gogoiji for his good political craftsmanship.

He has done good works, enough to make his people bring him to power for the third consecutive term," Gaikhangam told reporters at his office chamber this evening.

Observing that people of Assam cannot be fooled by other parties, Gaikhangam cited massive victory for the Congress party as a reward for the superb performances of the ruling government.

"We have full confidence that like Assam, the Congress will come to power in Manipur for the third time in a row.

The simple logic is SPF is doing good equally in both the hill and the valley," he said.

Having opted to remain as the MPCC president to further galvanise the political organisation even though ministerial post in the present SPF Government was literally at his command, Gaikhangam said under the leadership of chief minister O Ibobi Singh, the government has taken all developmental aspects in all fronts" .

With regard to the routing of the Left Front in the West Bengal assembly elections after over three decades of Communist rule he said the historic rise of Trinamool Congress and end of Left hegemony is a reminder that the masses cannot be taken for a ride as political awareness of the common people have risen significantly.

"Better late than never.

Now the people of West Bengal have awakened and I extend my congratulation to Mamata Banerjee for bringing a dramatic political change for the people's cause" .

Reacting on Congress stalwart and former Nagaland chief minister SC Jamir's humiliating defeat in the Aolenden bye-poll, Gaikhangam claimed the election was not free and fair for there is no rule of law in the neighbouring State.

On a poser regarding prospect of the Congress party in the forthcoming Imphal Municipal Council election slated for May 25, he said, "as per preliminary reports culled from our party workers we may get 17 to 18 seats out of the total 27" .
