Noney, August 12 2024: Angered by the "power cutoff that has continued for nearly 3 weeks" in as many as 30 villages in Noney, the Villages Council Longmai Area (VCLA) has served an ultimatum to authorities concerned to revamp and improve power installations and supply.

The ultimatum was served following a public meeting on August 9 at Noney.

Putting forward a list of demands that include a proposal for upgradation of a transformer at the Noney substation, the VCLA said the people of Noney may resort to organising mass agitations if their grievances are not resolved by August 18 .

The Noney District Headquarters has been facing frequent erratic power supply, and the power cutoff for nearly 3 weeks despite repeated appeals made to authorities concerned to address the issue, said the VCLA in a statement.

Noney, being a newly bifurcated district, remains "neglected" with "zero" maintenance of the age-old electric poles, insulators and faulty HT/LT lines, it said.

The 3.4 MVA transformer currently in service has become overloaded with increasing consumers.

Further, the unstable power lines stretching from Yurembam power station to the Noney substation have caused frequent power cuts causing extreme inconveniences to the people, who are all prepaid consumers, it said.

While the MSPDCL and the MSPCL offices at Noney are understaffed, the power cut that has continued for weeks has severely affected the wellbeing of the people, the economy and all online based administrative activities in the DHQs, said the VCLA.

Listing its demands, the VCLA said the authorities concerned should install mini towers from Yurembam to Noney substation replacing the age-old substandard installations.

Not less than 5 employees from members of communities that aren't involved in the current conflict must be posted immediately at Noney for effective line maintenance at the 33 line MSPCL, it said.

Further, the current 3.4 MVA transformer must be upgraded to 5 MVA at the Noney substation, and the Jiri-Thangal (Lamdangmei) via Khoupum power line extending to Noney substation should be made operational at the earliest, it added.
