Noney, July 12 2022: With the search still on for the missing people, whose bodies or remains are yet to be recovered, following the disastrous landslide at Marangching in Noney district after midnight of June 29, two more lifeless bodies were recovered today from the debris on the 13th day of the search operation.

With this the total number of bodies recovered so far now stands at 55.The bodies of six others are yet to be recovered.

The two deceased persons have been identified as Utpal Phukan and Hanuman Khonwar.

Both were engaged as VSC labourers.

This is the 13th day of the search operation amongst the debris, after a side of the hill broke down and swept away everything on its way including the camp of the 107 Territorial Army attached to the Gurkha Rifles in the adjoining night of June 29 and June 30 .

18 people were earlier rescued alive from the debris while the lifeless bodies of 53 persons, mostly personnel of 107 Territorial Army personnel were recovered earlier.

Now with the addition of two more bodies, the total number of bodies recovered stands at 55 .

Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai had earlier stated that the search will continue till all the bodies are recovered.

On the other hand a goodwill mission team of Spring Charitable Trust (SCT) led by its vice president Golmei Pouhoilung and general secretary Robert Gonmei handed over relief materials and some cash as relief to the families of those who have been affected by the Makhuam (Marangching) landslide.

The assistance was extended under Mathiupong Gonmei, social worker and chief patron of Spring Charitable Trust.

A cash amount of Rs 30,000 each were handed over to the families of late Kabamgai Gondaimei of Makhuam-4 and Lungpuilan Gondaimei of Makhuam-5 .

Kachangthai Gonmei, actor cum director and ambassador of the goodwill mission speaking at the occasion said that the assistance to the affected families has been made possible with the help and cooperation of generous donors.

The two bereaved families extended their heartfelt gratitude to the goodwill mission team of Spring Charitable Trust.
