Imphal, September 11 2025:
Just a few days before the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur, the 43 Phungyar Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mandal and Morcha of BJP, Manipur Pradesh have announced their collective resignation from the primary membership of the party.
The move from the Phungyar BJP Mandal and Morcha comes close in the wake of many leaving the BJP fold and joining the Congress in Sugnu AC and three other prominent political figures earlier.
In response, Awung Shimray Hopingson, vice-president, BJP, Manipur Pradesh has declared the declaration issued by "a group identifying themselves as 43/Phungyar BJP Mandal and Morcha executives" as a "publicity stunt aimed at misleading the public and an attempt to tarnish the image of the party for their personal gain" .
He further clarified that "the official BJP Mandal and booth-level executives of the 43 Phungyar Assembly Constituency remain intact and fully committed".
According to a press release bearing the signatures of thirteen 43-Phungyar BJP Mandal and Morcha executives, the resignation was led by Ngachonmi Ramshang, Special Invitee, BJP Manipur Pradesh.
Expressing deep concern over the present state of affairs within the party, the press release highlighted a lack of consultation, inclusiveness and respect for grassroots leadership as major reasons for their resignation.
The 43-Phungyar BJP Mandal president and colleague, Mahila Morcha president and colleague, Yuva Morcha president and colleague, Kishan Morcha president and colleague, ST Morcha executives, along with 53 booth presidents have officially resigned from the primary membership of BJP, as per the statement.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by Awung Shimray Hopingson, former BJP candidate from 43-Phungyar (ST) AC accused the resignees of engaging in anti-party activities since Manipur State Assembly elections 2022 following the party's decision not to field Ngachonmi Ramshang as the candidate for 43-Phungyar AC.
Terming ill the signatories in the statement as "wolves in sheeps' clothing", he claimed that instead of supporting the official party candidate, Ramshang and his associates "actively campaigned for rival parties, thereby adversely affecting the BJP's position in the election result" .
He said that a formal petition was allegedly submitted to the president of BJP Manipur Pradesh on March 17, 2022 requesting immediate disciplinary action based on "their anti-party activities" .
He called the press release announcing the collective resignation as a "clear reflection of the personal frustration and ambitions of a few individuals" and which "do not represent the views or actual condition of the party structure in Phungyar constituency" .
Claiming that the people of the constituency are well aware of these facts, he expressed confidence in their continued support to uphold the values of the BJP .
