Kuki militants bombard Koutruk, Senjam Chirang

Intensifying its onslaught against Meeteis, Kuki militants bombarded and attacked Koutruk and Senjam Chirang under Lamshang police station.
While Koutruk was attacked in the intervening night of June 10 and June 11, eight bombs were fired at Senjam Chirang at around 2.30 pm today of which five went off.
At Senjam Chirang, Kuki militants fired eight bombs and multiple rounds of bullets using sophisticated weapons from Haraothel side.
Of the eight bombs, four exploded in front of the sentry post of 6th Manipur Rifles while another one went off near the fence erected at the adjacent area of the CRPF camp of 67th Battalion Alpha company (situated very close to Ema Kounu Temple) and 6th Manipur Rifles camp.

Of the three unexploded bombs, one fell at the granary of one Yengkhom Budhi (35), s/o Late Y Amu of Senjam Chirang Maning Leikai while another fell near Ema Kounu Temple.
The third one fell in the river nearby.
The bombs haven't been picked up yet while the one which fell in the river has gone out of sight.
It is said that personnel of 6th Manipur Rifles also fired some rounds at the Kuki militants but there is no report of any injury.
No personnel were injured in the series of explosions.
Notably, there is a post of Assam Rifles some 50 metres away from the spot which the Kuki militants used to launch the attack.
Meanwhile at Koutruk, heavily armed Kuki militants launched the attack from Koutruk Maning Ching and Bethel Village sides using sophisticated weapons.
Reportedly village volunteers and security personnel deployed in the area didn't retaliate in the initial stage of the attack.
They resorted to retaliatory firing only when the Kuki militants intensified their offensive to prevent the aggressors from advancing toward Meetei villages.
The gunfight lasted till early morning today with brief intervals in between.
There is no report of any injury.
Sources also said that Meetei villages located in the periphery areas of Imphal West and Kangpokpi are on high alert following the attack.
