Imphal, December 10: In case the Delimitation exercise is carried out in the State on the basis of the contentious 2001 Census report, a major people's uprising is inevitable, the All Political Parties delegation has warned the Delimitation Commission of India.

The delegation also expressed their strong objection to the draft working proposal for delimitation, conveyed State Delimitation Commission Associate member O Joy.

A meeting of the Delimitation Commission of India was held today at about 11 am with Chief Minister O Ibobi, Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Health and Family Welfare Minister Ph Parijat, MPP Legislature Wing leader O Joy, Lok Sabha MPs Dr T Meinya and Mani Charenamei.

MPCC president and associate member Gaikhangam, however, did not attend the meeting, as he left for Imphal yesterday after appending his signature to a joint memorandum.

During the meeting, the Commission officials were apprised of the fact that since 2003 all the political parties of the State have been opposing any delimitation exercise based on the 'faulty' 2001 Census report.

The 2001 Census report allegedly full of gross errors and manipulations has been rejected by the people.

The 100 percent population increase in some areas of hill districts as recorded in the 2001 Census is highly unrealistic and can never be accepted under any circumstances, pointed out the delegation to the Commission officials.

The officials were also informed of the Cabinet decisions and State Assembly resolutions adopted against any delimitation exercise based on the contentious Census report, Joy conveyed.

Flatly rejecting the draft working proposal of the proposed delimitation, the all parties delegation warned that Manipur will see a massive and intense people's movement in case the Delimitation exercise is implemented.

Their purpose of visiting New Delhi was to apprise all the Union leaders of this inevitable unwanted reaction, the delegation told the Commission officials.

While asking the Commission not to go ahead with the Delimitation exercise based on the highly unrealistic census report, the delegation also asserted that they will not participate in any more meeting on the delimitation issue.

The delegation led by Chief Minister O Ibobi also met BJP president Rajnath Singh and Opposition leader in Lok Sabha LK Advani and urged them to stall the delimitation process in the State.

LK Advani assured that he will suggest the Union Government to convene a meeting of all the political parties of the country on the issue.

The BJP leader also assured that he will make arrangements so that delimitation exercise is not implemented in the left out North Eastern States of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, said Joy while adding that the delegation is seeking appointments with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today evening.
