Imphal, November 10 2025: A 22-year old pregnant woman was found hung to death inside her room at Kumbi Setupur Mamang Leikai Ward No 2 in the afternoon of November 9, 2025 .

The deceased has been identified as Moirangthem (ongbi) Ichan alias Amusana (22) w/o M Naocha of Kumbi Setupur Mamang Leikai Ward No 2 .

Ichan alias Amusana who was seven months pregnant was found hanging inside their room with a nylon rope at around 2 pm yesterday.

On getting information of Ichan alias Amusana hanging inside her room, family members and people of the neighbourhood rushed to the spot and assaulted M Naocha alleging that the young woman might have taken the extreme step due to frequent harassment and beating by Naocha under the influence of liquor and ganja.

Later Naocha was handed over to Kumbi police station.

Sources said that Naocha is currently undergoing treatment in RIMS Hospital.

On the other hand, the body of Ichan alias Amusana was deposited at RIMS mortuary last night for post mortem after inquest of the dead body and the surrounding area by a team of State forensic science experts.

While the post mortem of the dead body was conducted today, an FIR has been registered at Kumbi police station in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, a joint action committee (JAC) has been formed in connection with the alleged suspicious death of Ichan alias Amusana.

Speaking to media persons today at the parental home of Ichan, a sister-in-law of the deceased said that Soibam (ningol) Ichan was married to Moirangthem Naocha who lives just a short distance away from their home.

Although they have two children, the couple used to quarrel most of the time, the sister-in-law said.

Following a quarrel with her husband, Ichan came to her parental home at around 10 pm last Friday.

But Naocha came the next morning with their two children to take back Ichan.

Ichan went back to her husband's home, she said.

On Saturday night itself, it was said that Ichan was missing.

The young woman could not be found the next day too (Sunday) despite a massive search involving Meira Paibis and local club volunteers.

Subsequently, a missing report was lodged with police.

Later on Sunday afternoon, Ichan was found hung to death inside a room at her husband's house.

Ichan was nude when she was found hung to death, the sister-in-law said.

Saying that many bruises and injury marks were seen on Ichan's body, the sister-in-law said that the circumstances under which Ichan was found dead were highly suspicious.

JAC convenor Khangembam Reena said that they would not claim the body of Ichan until they receive the post mortem report.

One Meira Paibi activist appealed to all the people to help establish the facts and circumstances leading to the death of Ichan alias Amusana.
