Chaotic parking areas manned by 20 agencies

Imphal, November 09 2015: Dubbed as one of the most chaotic State capitals of the North East region by many people, parking areas of Imphal City under the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) is manned by 20 different agencies.

Notified parking slots are allotted in different areas of the State capital by the Road Traffic (Traffic Control) Regulations (TRPC) where various agencies are allowed to function as private parking area operators after tenders for parking slot allotment are called on by the IMC.

Speaking to an official of the IMC, it is learnt that these agencies have to pay the IMC on a daily basis.

The validity of the parking fee last for only the specified area.

There are various places in the municipality areas where local clubs and organizations are operating as parking area operators which the IMC has no jurisdiction over.

The IMC is planning to cover up those areas too, the official added.

With different agencies working every day to regulate parking spaces of private vehicles, every street of the State capital should be free from any form of chaos and confusion, yet the commuters face serious problem everywhere, commented Romen Salam whilte talking with The Sangai Express.

He further expressed that even though people pay for parking in the municipality area, there is no surety of vehicles being completely safe from vehicle lifters.

Each and every day vehicles get stolen and it is high time for the authorities concerned to work together and check vehicle theft, he added.

It may be mentioned that the parking areas of commercial vehicles are allotted by the Directorate of Transport Department, Manipur.
