Imphal, September 09 2016:
In a bid to give a thrust to the popular demand for enforcement of ILPS or a similar mechanism in the State, a mass protest rally for students has been lined up.
Speaking to media persons at the Sega Road, Konjeng Hazari Leikai office of JCILPS today, Students' Wing convenor Moirangthem Laxman said that a mass protest rally for students would be held shortly.
Informing that the Students' Wing is fully prepared to launch different modes of intense agitation in order to get a new Bill passed in the State Assembly, Laxman said that they have been undertaking different forms of democratic agitation urging the Government to convene an Assembly session and pass a new Bill.
However, the State Government has been using excessive forces to suppress the people's movement.
For instance, the Government has been imposing restrictions under CrPC 144 and curfew every now and then.
The Government has been violating the rights of its citizens wantonly.
If the Government still continues to use excessive forces against the people, it would definitely amount to inviting a civil war, Laxman said.
He also condemned the alleged excesses committed by police against students at Konung Mamang today where around 30 students sustained injuries out of whom 15 were admitted in JNIMS and Advanced Hospital.
