Imphal, October 08: Dealing a criticial blow on his political career, former State unit BJP president and former Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Thounaojam Chaoba Singh, who has been under the shadow of perpetual threat from an underground organisation, has been relieved from both the active and the primary membership of the party.

A resolution in this connection was adopted after the two-day special joint meeting of the State executive committee of the party which concluded here today.

The party leaders, however, declined to spell out the actual contents of the resolution maintaining that 'it is an internal matter'.

Earlier on September 5, Chaoba was removed from the National executive membership of the party.

There too, the Central party leaders had kept mum on the ground of the removal by brushing aside queries with comments 'it was done in the best interest of the party'.

Chaoba has been under perpetual threat from the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) charging him with indulging in activities against the outfit and the people.

Following the threat, Chaoba had resigned from the post of the party president The State unit also sufferned a total wash out in the recently held Imphal Municipal Council polls.

Zonal organisation secretary of the party V Satish had also announced earlier that the party would take an appropriate decision on Chaoba at an appropriate time ahead of the ensuing State Assembly election scheduled to be held sometime in February 2007.All the ranks of the State unit party also seemed to have received a breather following the decision to drop Chaoba from the party as one of the leaders even equipped, 'Today is a clear day for our party'.

Announcing the resolution of relieving Chaoba from both the active and primary membership of the party during a press conference here today, BJP National general secretary Thawarchand Gehlot said he was satisfied with the decision taken by the special joint session of the State unit party.

Although he declined to spell out the reasons behind the ouster of Chaoba explicitly, Gehlot announced the preparedness of the party for the ensuring State Assembly polls.

He also accused the Congress led coalition SPF Government of misgovernance culminating in fuelling corruption and social chaos.

'Amid the failure of the State Government to book the perpetrators involved in the recent terror attack at ISKCON temple killing six devotees, unidentified men lobbed a bomb inside a private clinic in the heart of the town on Saturday wounding six persons.

These are just two glaring examples that the State's law and order machineries have failed', Gehlot said.

Current State Unit BJP president Dr H Borobabu, who was also present during the press conference, said a team of State Unit BJP leaders would soon go to prevail upon the Election Commission of India for taking up necessary arrangements and deployment of adequate security forces to ensure free and fair conduct of the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly election.

BJP has already demanded imposition of President's Rule in the State ahead of the polls, he added.

BJP MLA M Bhorot Singh who also spoke at the occasion, appealed to those who have left the party probably on the issue of Chaoba to come back to the fold of the party.

He also informed that an election management committee of the party has been formed for the forthcoming polls.
