Speaking to the media by the sideline, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam who is also the chairman of the observation committee recounted the widespread agitation which was seen in Manipur in 2001 after the 'without territorial limit' clause was inserted in the Bangkok Declaration as part of the peace talk between Indian Government and NSCN (IM) .
Saying that 18 people laid down their lives in the movement, the UCM president added that the contro- versial clause (Without Territorial Limit) was with- drawn following the massive protests by the people.
Further stating that there is a constant threat on the territorial integrity of Mani-pur, he added that the con- temporary restive situation was also triggered by a design of a particular commu- nity to break the State apart.
Joychandra said that they (the observation committee of 'The Great June Uprising and Unity Day') will always stand against any attempt which is detrimental to the interest of Manipur.
Literally no one can disintegrate Manipur built by the sweats and blood of 'our ancestors', he said and asserted that the attempt being made by Chin-Kuki narco terrorists to fragment Mani-pur will never succeed.
Manipur merged with the Union of India after the latter agreed to protect the land and boundary of Manipur, Joychandra continued.
Saying that people of Manipur may demand restoration of pre-merger status of the erstwhile kingdom if India takes the side of Kukis who are scheming to disintegrate Manipur, the UCM president appealed to the Govt of India to respect history.
Meanwhile, Joychandra appealed to the people of Manipur to attend the observance of 'The Great June Uprising and Unity Day' on June 18 (Tuesday) and offer their tributes to the 18 bravehearts.
AMUCO president Nando Luwang said that the observance on June 18 will be held in a low key manner with offering of floral tributes as the main event.
Saying that the people of Manipur are very serious when it comes to the territorial integrity of the State, Nando Luwang claimed that the war being waged by Kuki people against Manipur is with the support of the Indian Government.
