As part of the efforts being made by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to distribute DTH and TV sets freely in far flung and remote areas with the main objective of disseminating information and knowledge throughout the country, MLA Keisham Meghachandra today presented 21 TV sets to institutions including local clubs of Wangkhem Assembly Constituency.
The MLA handed over the TV sets to representatives of the local clubs and institutions during a simple function at the Yairipok Bamon Leikai community hall.
Speaking on the occasion, Meghachandra observed that youth in other parts of the country have made significant contribution and made their presence felt in various fields like education, business and politics.
In order ensure that youths in Manipur too can participate and contribute their mite in various fields like their counterparts elsewhere, there is the need to widen their knowledge.
For this, they should keep in touch with the media and understand the happenings around.
The initiative taken up the Government of India would not only help the youth but also other people in this direction, the MLA said, while disclosing that he is planning to set up a youth centre at Yairipok.
Expressing concern over the deplorable condition of the roads in Wangkhem Assembly Constituency, Meghachandra assured that the blacktopping of all the roads which have not been done for more than 20 years would be accomplished by 2008-09.The construction of the Yairipok bridge would also be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 42 lakhs, he said, adding that efforts would also be made for construction of the market shed.
Social worker M Rajmohan and BDO Thoubal T Chandra attended the function as president and guest of honour respectively.
