Imphal, December 06 2021: The Indian National Congress has de-manded resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in connection with the December 4 massacre that happened at Oting Village in Mon district, Nagaland wherein as many as 13 civilians were killed by Assam Rifles.

Condemning the incident, AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das said the Union Home Minister should bear responsibility for the incident.

Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan today, Bhakta Charan Das demanded institution of an inquiry committee to find out the truth about the December 4 incident.

Such an unfortunate incident at a place where there is a cease-fire raises question whether the Home Ministry is unable to control the forces under its wing, he added.

Saying that the people of Nagaland are peace loving people, Bhakta Charan Das questioned if killing of the innocent civilians were absolutely necessary.

The Union Home Minister should respond to all these questions, he added.

He also demanded Rs 1 crore compensation to each family of the deceased and Rs 10 lakh to people who were wounded in the incident.

INC also extended solidarity to the Naga people, specially the Konyak tribe in such trying times and prayed such inhumane incidents never happen again in the North Eastern States in future.

Ukhrul AC MLA Alfred Kanngam Arthur said the BJP-led NDA Government had been claiming that the armed forces have been strengthened since they came to power but the killing of innocent civilians in Mon district by para-military forces has shown the 'discipline' and status of the Indian armed forces.

Alfred Kanngam Arthur told the media that only two groups are operating in Nagaland, NSCN-IM and NNPG, both of which are officially under ceasefire agreement with the Government of India.

He ridiculed the claim made by Assam Rifles that the civilians were killed on mistaken identity and they were actually targeting a group of NSCN-K which is not a part of the ceasefire agreement.

Alfred maintained that NSCN-K operates only in Myanmar.

He also added that Nagaland Home Minister should resign.
