Last rites of missing boys to be held

Imphal, March 06 2025:
The families of Maibam Avinash and Ningthoujam Anthony, who went missing on November 5, 2023, along with local clubs, have announced that their last rites will be held on March 23 .
Avinash, s/o Hemanta of Lamsang Phumlou Lambi Akham Awang Leikai and Anthony, s/o (L) Sunder of Lamsang Akham, both teenagers, were last seen crossing Kanglatongbi bridge and heading north on a motorcycle on November 5, 2023 in a CCTV camera footage, as per earlier reports.
Addressing the media at the residence of late Anthony, Premlata, his mother, expressed her longing for her son's return, saying she had been waiting for months.
Premlata, the grieving mother, expressed her reluctance to accept her son's passing, saying she can't bear the thought of her son never returning.
She, however with a heavy heart, has agreed to perform his last rites according to Meetei custom, as a way to honor her son.
A visibly devastated Premlata stated that Kuki militants are responsible for unleashing violence on innocent civilians, not sparing even a toddler, in pursuit of their political demand.
People have been chased out of their homes, villages have been flattened and houses have been torched yet the Indian Government has not taken any action against the Kuki militants, she rued.
RUCO, Akham president Ningthoujam Rasanta Kumar appealed to the people to attend the funeral rites of the two boys.
