International Film Fest kicks off on right note

The highly anticipated 2nd Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival 2025 commenced today at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound.
The four-day film festival organised by Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) and Manipur State Film & Television Institute kicked off with a captivating folk song performance by Rosy Heisnam and presentation of simple gifts to the jury members.
Speaking as the chief guest, Information and Public Relations and Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan said that films have the power to showcase and promote the culture and traditions of a society in a unique and captivating way.
Saying that films have the power to transcend language barriers and connect with the audience worldwide, he added that actors have the incredible ability to convey the emotions of a film through their performances, even to those who may not be familiar with the language.
What the actors and actresses do is truly remarkable, he added.
Saying that most of the sponsorship of film related activities come from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr Ranjan maintained that support to the State's Information and Public Relations Department is needed to promote Manipur film industry.
Aribam Syam who is known as the doyen of Manipur cinema said that organising an international film festival in Manipur is a matter of pride for the State and her people.
Hosting an international film festival in Manipur is a wonderful opportunity to support local film-makers and showcase Manipur culture, he added.
Festival catalogue and bulletin were also released during the function.
Ishanou, a Manipur film, was screened at four places on the opening day of the film festival.
Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh also attended the programme.
Master class, panel discussion and pitching session have also begun in the presence of noted National and international film-makers as part of the festival.
